Iz update!

Dan Kois' 33 1/3 on Israel Kamakawiwo'ole's "Facing Future" got a nice long write up in the Honolulu Advertiser this morning. You can read the full article here.

Dan was also featured in New York Magazine's Approval Matrix, charting in the "Middlebrow-Brilliant" quadrant. Here's a link to that, if you'd like to see how it compares to the rest of the cultural miasma on the week of December 27, 2009.

Dan was also interviewed on 105Kine in Hawai'i yesterday morning. Unfortunately they don't have audio archives, so I can't link to that*. But when I was checking out their website I noticed that in their "Top 10 CDs" feature, Iz holds down 4 of the 10 slots, with Facing Future at #1. Not bad for an album released in 1993.

As I was revisiting the links for this post, I was reminded of the running campaign on Dan's Facing Future blog, to get a photograph of Barack Obama (who is from Hawai'i) holding a copy of the book. Looking at a picture of Iz included in the Honolulu Advertiser piece at the beginning of the post, I was reminded of that picture of a young Obama... I dunno, what do you think?

*UPDATE: Here's a link to the 105KINE interview if you'd like to hear it: http://drop.io/105KINE <--go there and click on "Dan Kois interview" and it should play in your browser without having to download to your desktop.
